Healthcare Reform for Children in Low-Income Schools and Communities

Healthcare Reform for Children in Low-Income Schools and Communities

Implemented in: metro Los Angeles area
When: 2014 – 2015

Crafted and launched a preventative health program that addresses the childhood obesity epidemic in low-income schools and communities. By taking a dynamic approach to the daily lived experiences and realities of low-income youth, we assessed and altered factors such as pervasive food insecurity, safe places for exercise, and family involvement. Authentic relationships with various community stakeholders and healthcare system leaders were built, resulting in 12 mayoral appointees on a Health and Wellness Commission.
